Informaton about library borrowing

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

"Interlibrary loans" are items borrowed for faculty by Coulter Library from other libraries, and consequently are subject to varying loan periods and renewal periods, depending upon the lending library's policies. Interlibrary loans are subject to federal copyright laws.

Student Reserve

Reserve items are placed in the library by an instructor for use by his/her class(es). These items can only be used in the Library, and are due back at closing time on the same day they are checked out. (Students may make copies of reserve items if desired.) Students will be billed for any items that are not returned to the Course Reserves counter by closing time on the same day they are checked out.

Replacement of Overdue/Lost Items

Once an item is overdue, students will receive three email notices (sent to their OCC email account) to remind them to return the item(s).  After the third notification, borrowing privileges will be suspended.  A PERC restriction is then placed on the student's campus record which will prevent them from registering or receiving a copy of their transcript until after their financial obligation to the library has been fulfilled.

Overdue/Lost Items

Once an item is overdue, community users will receive three email notices (sent to an email address or mailed to their home) to remind them to return the item(s).  After the third notification, borrowing privileges will be suspended and patrons are charged for the item.

Holds

Any patron may place a "hold" on an item that is already checked out. Patrons can place holds right from the library catalog or ask library staff for assistance. If someone places a hold on an item, the patron who has checked it out will be asked to return the item after twenty one (21) days (books or periodicals), seven (7) days (DVDs), or fourteen (14) days (CDs), or seven (7) days (DVDs) from time of first borrowing the item.

Circulation of Materials

Community users are welcome to borrow Coulter Library materials. Community users may borrow up to 15 items at one time.

Library Accounts

Onondaga County residents may borrow library materials, but they must first register as a community borrower and show a form of photo ID (usually a NYS driver's license) to receive a library card. After the patron fills out a registration card, a Coulter Library card is issued, and s/he may borrow up to 15 (fifteen) items at one time.
