Selecting a topic may sound easy, but it can be the most difficult decision in a research project. It’s best to select a topic which is important and interests you, and which you will enjoy finding out more about.
- If you can’t think of a topic, you can get great ideas from movies, television shows, or news stories.
- Focus your topic so it's not too broad or too narrow.
Example: The topic “music” is much too broad; on the other hand, the topic “rap music in Kenya in the 1990’s” is probably too narrow.
- If you’re really stuck for a topic, you can find a list of possible topics to get you started in the Opposing Viewpoints database.
