De-Stress Fest

De-Stress Fest

Coulter Library, in partnership with the OCC Knitting & Crochet Club and the student maker club, will host a de-stress event that will include therapy dogs from CNY Paws, prize raffle and other fun activities to help relieve your end of semester stress. Light refreshments will be provided. 

Be sure to stop by Wednesday, December 12 during college hour (11:00am-12:30pm) to relax and enjoy yourself.

We will have our last open hours Makerspace day on Monday (12/10) from 1pm - 3pm. We will reopen for the Spring semester on Wednesday (1/23) from 11am - 1pm.

Paper Circuit Holiday Cards

Join us during college hour on Wednesday, November 14 (1st Floor Coulter Lobby) to learn how to make paper circuit holiday cards. We will teach you how to light an LED light by creating a circuit with conductive tape and other supplies.

Material generously donated by our OCC Veterans are on display during the month of November in the 2nd floor display case at the entrance of the Coulter Library.

International Stonework Play Day

International Stonework Play Day

Celebrate International Stonework Play Day by creating your stonework story anytime the week of 11/5. Diana Suskind ’66 is an artist and author who specializes in stonework-play. She visited the college a couple weeks ago and provided us with several resources for setting up a “Stonework Play” This stonework play area will be available from Monday, November 5 – Friday, November 9. It is located in front of the Library Makerspace (C141). station. We hope you will share your stonework stories. You can share your story with friends, family, and with us! To share with us via social media include the hashtag #OCCMAKERS and #STONEWORKPLAYDAY.

Global Maker Day Challenges

Global Maker Day Challenges

We had several students enter our global maker day challenges raffle. You can find some of them on Twitter or Instagram by seraching for the following hashtags #OCCmakers and #GlobalMakerDay! The challenges are listed below.

A. Make a toilet paper roll functional.

B. Create 3D content in augmented reality using 3DBear. Download the app at https://3dbear.io/.

C. Using TinkerCad, design a personalized keychain (don’t forget the hole for the key ring!).

D. Make something that does something using our bin full of low-tech items such as recyclables & supplies.

E. Fit yourself through a single index card.

F. Using only Legos, create one of the following:

  1. A Halloween inspired creation
  2. First initial of your name
  3. A bridge for a mini-figure to cross
  4. Blaze 
  5. A library inspired creation
  6. Your choice!

OCC Student Makers Club Meetings

The OCC Student Makers Club meetings for the Fall 2018 semester are scheduled for 10/19, 11/2, 11/16 & 12/7 at 11:15am in C340C. The meetings are open to all current OCC students.

Raspberry Pi Workshop

Raspberry Pi Workshop

Join us on Wednesday, November 7, at 11:15 to learn how to setup a Raspberry Pi. You will get hands-on experience setting up a Raspberry Pi as an operating system and discuss some ways they can be used. Bring your own micro SD card if you would like to save your work. Advanced registration is recommended. Email library@sunyocc.edu or stop by the Makerspace to sign up.

Upcycling Craft: Recycled Book Journals

Upcycling Craft: Recycled Book Journals

Join us during college hour on Wednesday, November 28 (1st Floor Coulter Lobby) to learn how to up-cycle an old book into a new journal. You can B.Y.O.B (bring your own book) or use one of ours. In this make-your-own-journal workshop, we will be taking apart old books, cutting paper to size, drilling holes and reconstructing materials to create up-cycled journals. We will provide books, materials, and tools - or feel free to bring your own.
